Yesterday my husband and I drove to Cover's, an apple ranch only about one hour and fifteen minutes from our house. It's a very old orchard but they have a new shop and restaurant as well. The day was beautiful; sunny and warm, with the bluest sky. We were greeted by the most lovely apple blossoms; I just had to take pictures... This is one of our favorite spots and we have been going for many years, often with friends and family. We love their delicious apple turnovers...
Yesterday was the big day: the Ventana Gallery had a reception during Sonora's monthly art walk. Two very talented photographer friends of mine who also joined the Gallery, Lorraine Nilson and Barbara Evans Barbour, and I travelled to Sonora and were able to see our work displayed for the first time. As we expected, it was done beautifully. The owner of the gallery Dennis Garcia, an artist in his own right, meticulously and creatively displays every piece of artwork to perfection. Meeting people, live music, food, wine and great art made for a wonderful evening.
Other galleries were also open and had receptions, notably the George Post Gallery. It was featuring artists who are participating in the annual open studio tour coming up, Sonora Art Trails. This is an organization that helps support and promote the visual arts in Tuolumne County. If you're in the area, be sure to check it out (www.sonoraarttrails.org); you will have the opportunity to meet the various participating artists in their studios, buy art directly from them and find out all about their creative processes.
And, of course, the Aloft Gallery was in on the fun. I learned that one of my pieces sold that night, so I'm a very happy artist :-)
